LOFOB: Children’s Day and Sensory Garden

Published by Spirit News on January 21, 2025

In 2024, The League of Friends of the Blind (LOFOB) Foundation hosted a truly special event in celebration of Children’s Day. The highlight of the day was the official launch of the Sensory Garden, a beautiful and thoughtfully designed space created especially for blind and visually impaired children, youth, and adults.

The Sensory Garden was designed to engage their senses, except sight, allowing individuals to experience the world around them in new and meaningful ways. Through the touch of different textures, the smell of fragrant flowers, and the sounds of nature, the garden provides an experience that encourages exploration and connection with the environment. The joy and excitement were noticed as attendees navigated the garden, discovering the vibrant array of plants and features that make it so unique. The Sensory Garden is not just a place to relax, but a space that promotes independence and empowerment, allowing users to engage fully with their surroundings in a safe and accessible way.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to The Plantsman who took the time and care to set up the entire garden. His dedication and expertise played a pivotal role in creating a space that is both beautiful and functional, designed with the specific needs of the blind and visually impaired community in mind. His efforts have given LOFOB’s members a gift that will bring joy and inspiration for years to come.

The opening of the Sensory Garden on Children’s Day marks a significant milestone for LOFOB and its ongoing mission to enhance the lives of blind and visually impaired individuals. It was a day filled with smiles, laughter, and a renewed sense of possibility, as all who attended were able to experience the power of their senses in a whole new way.

We are excited to see how the Sensory Garden will continue to provide a space for learning, relaxation, and enjoyment for the LOFOB community. Thank you to everyone who made this day possible, and we look forward to more celebrations and projects that create positive change for those we serve.
